How can a company use AI tools safely when personal data is involved?
Use AI only where there is a lawful purpose, minimise or de-identify the data first, choose providers with written data protection terms, keep processing inside an environment you control where possible, and keep a human accountable for decisions. Write down your rules. This is general information, not legal advice.
Consider whether you need personal data at all. Many forecasting and pattern-finding tasks work on aggregated or de-identified figures.
Running models inside your own cloud account avoids sending data to outside services. Where outside AI services are used, check retention, training use, location and sub-processors. Some privacy laws also restrict automated decisions that significantly affect people, so check that before deploying. Rules differ by country and sector, so check how this applies to you with a qualified adviser.
