How can version control help with analytics code and dashboards?

Version control, usually Git, records every change to SQL models and scripts, who made it and why, and lets you review changes before they go live and roll back mistakes. It makes analytics code auditable and enables several people to work safely together.

Benefits:

Tools like dbt are designed around Git. Dashboards are harder to version, since many BI tools store them internally, so some teams export definitions or document them separately. At minimum, keep transformation logic in version control rather than only inside a BI tool.
