How do I build a sensible data roadmap on a limited budget?
Rank possible projects by business value and effort, start with foundational work that unlocks several uses, and deliver in small stages that each produce something useful. Fix data quality and definitions before advanced analytics, and review the plan every few months.
A staged example:
- Stage 1: audit and agree key metrics
- Stage 2: centralise main data sources and build core dashboards
- Stage 3: extend to more sources and automate reports
- Stage 4: add forecasting or machine learning where justified
Each stage should have a clear benefit so you can stop or adjust if priorities change. Be willing to drop items that no longer pay off; a roadmap is a set of options, not a promise to do everything listed.
