How should a small business start with data analytics?
Start with the decisions that matter most, list the questions you cannot currently answer, and identify which systems hold the relevant data. Then audit data quality, agree definitions for a few key metrics, and build one useful dashboard end to end before expanding.
A sensible sequence:
- Pick two or three business questions with clear value
- Inventory your data sources and who owns them
- Check the data for gaps and mismatches
- Define the metrics precisely
- Build a small first version and get feedback
- Expand only once people actually use it
Resist the urge to connect everything at once. Early wins build trust and show what is worth doing next.
