What does data minimisation mean in practice for analytics projects?
Data minimisation means collecting and using only the personal data you actually need for a stated purpose. In analytics, that means not copying whole customer tables into reports when a handful of fields would answer the question, and removing identifiers once they are no longer required.
It is a principle in GDPR and a similar idea appears in POPIA's minimality and purpose conditions. It also lowers your risk, because data you do not hold cannot be leaked.
Before a project, list each field you plan to use and what decision it supports. If you cannot name one, leave it out. Revisit the list when reports change. This is general information, not legal advice.
