What is CCPA and CPRA and does it affect small businesses?
CCPA is the California Consumer Privacy Act, amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). It gives California residents rights over their personal information. It applies only to businesses that meet certain thresholds, so many small businesses are not covered, but some are. This is general information, not legal advice.
The thresholds relate to factors such as annual revenue, the volume of personal information handled, and income from selling or sharing it. They are updated from time to time.
If you do fall in scope, rights typically include knowing what is collected, deleting it and opting out of sale or sharing. Check the current thresholds with the California authorities or a qualified adviser before concluding that you are exempt.
