How do I get staff and management to actually use new dashboards?
Involve users in design, build around decisions they already make, train them briefly, build the dashboards into regular meetings and have a leader use them visibly. Fix errors promptly and retire dashboards nobody uses. Adoption is earned through relevance and reliability.
Adoption tactics:
- Ask what they check now and why
- Replace an existing report instead of adding another
- Show quick wins early
- Provide a contact for questions
- Review usage after a month
Resistance often comes from distrust of the numbers or fear of scrutiny. Address both openly. Ask users after a month what they still do outside the dashboard. The answers show exactly what to improve next.
