What should an exit and handover plan include when ending a data project?
Include revoking the provider's access, returning or deleting any data they hold, confirming ownership of code, models and dashboards, receiving documentation, and a handover session. Also rotate any shared credentials and update your records of who processes your data. Check how this applies to you with a qualified adviser.
A checklist:
- Remove accounts and API keys
- Obtain written confirmation of deletion of any copies
- Collect documentation and credentials for tools you own
- Check that scheduled jobs and dashboards still run
- Update your processor register and privacy notice if needed
Plan this at the start by putting exit terms in the contract. Rules differ by country and sector, so check how this applies to you with a qualified adviser.
